Marriage Talk: Money Matters
Finding someone worth settling is indeed a blessing. Getting married is one of the happiest moments of your life but what comes after may not be the fairytale you dream about but it doesn’t mean that it is that bad. There will come a time that couples argue. Most of the time, the argument is all about money or children.
If in this case you argue about your financial matters too often, you have to make sure that you avoid the same mistakes so it will not manifest again and again. When you are a couple, it is expected that you will work around your differences and see a point for compromise. You will not always get your way but at least you are open for talks and resolving.
To prevent the recurrence of money difficulties, couples should take note of the following mistakes:
- No goal setting: When you have a project, you are guided by goals so you know which direction to head. This will also apply to couples and your financial future. Couples should set their goals first so you will know what to do and where to go. You have to talk about your long term plans from kid’s college to retirement and savings.
- No accounting: You think that only big corporations are entitled for accounting. That is not true. Accounting should be considered in the domestic setting so you will know where the money is heading. Couples rely on each other and if you have a system, you will not struggle. Remember, accountability is the key.
- No money talks: Sometimes, when you open about money matters, your partner is hesitant to hear it. This act alone can affect your entire financial setting. Communication is the key in every relationship especially when you are married. If you do not talk about money, you will not be in a better position at the end of the day.
- No looking: If you are not looking, you will surely stumble. For couples, it is imperative that you look far enough so you will not stumble and struggle. Keep in mind that it is never too early to think about retiring or other future endeavours. You have to look far enough to survive the future.
It is safe to say that the most common reason for divorce is financial matters. You do not want for your relationship to end that way because it will be a blow to our kids and the family. You have to consider the mistakes mentioned above and try to resolve it as early as possible.
