Reducing Your Risk of Breast Cancer

Let it be known that a drug in its experimental phase has shown promising results in treating breast cancer. Pfizer announced the news on April 6, 2014. Though it is still experimental and in its early clinical phase, the results are promising. Pfizer is the 2nd largest pharmaceutical company in the world. This is good news for patients with advanced breast cancer.

Pfizer released their trial reports. The report revealed that their Palbociclib prevented the worsening of breast cancer for about twenty months. The trial involved 165 breast cancer patients. Palbociclib targets particular proteins that can block tumours. Apart from Pfizer, other companies like Novartis and Eli Lilly also conduct their own clinical trials and experimentation against breast cancer.

This keeps the hope alive. Now, patients have something to look forward to. If in this case you are still not suffering from breast cancer but you are worried you might get it, it is important that you reduce your risk of breast cancer. Prevention begins with you and your healthy habits. Here are some things that you can do to reduce your risks of breast cancer:

  • Stop alcohol: If you are an alcoholic, it is time that you stop. It is better not to drink alcohol at all. If you cannot help it, at least limit your intake.
  • Stop smoking: Smoking is associated with increasing the risk of breast cancer. You have to stop smoking so the people around you are healthy too.
  • Be active: The best thing that you can do is to be active. You need to exercise. Believe it or not physical activities can reduce your risk of breast cancer.
  • Manage your weight: You have to know that obesity will increase your risk of having breast cancer. You should manage, control and maintain your health all throughout your lifetime.
  • Eat healthy foods: You have to maintain a healthy diet. You should consume fruits and vegetables but remember to consume it in moderation.
  • Do away with Hormone Replacement Therapy: If you consider Hormone Replacement Therapy, you are only putting yourself in peril. Avoid progesterone because it can increase your chances of having cancer.
  • Get regular screenings: You have to submit yourself to regular breast screenings. If your doctor recommends that you get screenings once a year, you have to follow it. Do not ignore it because it can be the difference between life and death.

They say that prevention is better than cure. You have to be serious about the prevention mentioned above because breast cancer is grave. You should spread the awareness.
